Chinmaya Vishwavidyapeeth, a UGC approved, Deemed-To-Be-University is a manifestation of the vision of Pujya Gurudev Swami Chinmayananda. In 1990, Pujya Gurudev had envisioned a University that would be a unique blend of the past and present, science and spirituality, and technology and tradition. With formal approval by the UGC in January 2017, the University is in the 2nd academic year with 127 students from India and abroad in the undergraduate and master’s degree programmes. These students will gear up as leaders of transformation of higher education in India.

The University is spread over a sprawling 10-acre campus at Chinmaya International Foundation (CIF), Ernakulam. We are in the process of acquiring 40-acres of land. The new campus will enable the University to develop suitable infrastructure for:

  • Academic blocks for different schools and programmes of study
  • State-of-the-art Library to support study and research
  • Labs for Psychology, Technology, Languages and other disciplines
  • Hostels for students and residences for faculty and senior functionaries, dining facilities
  • Auditorium, Seminar Halls, Research Centre
  • Yoga, Fitness and Sports centres as well as Recreation facilities

Over 3 phases, we are looking to build 2,50,000 square feet in this new campus that will support the needs of the University for 20 years and beyond.

Academic Block/Department/School

IKT, or Indian Knowledge Traditions, as a composite repository of all knowledge hitherto known or yet unknown to mankind, is a knowledge bank for all modern applications from their traditional sources.

Subjects such as communication, linguistics, logic, ethics, governance, astro-physics, etymology, science of medicine, science of weapons, fine arts, politics, architecture, management, commerce and many more can be found in the upavedas, vedangas, upangas, puranas and upapuranas. Some of the greatest discoveries in science find a reference to the Vedas, the substratum of all knowledge, whose universality is proven and appreciated.

This repository termed the ‘caturdasha-vidya-sthanam’ is at the root of all academic programmes at Chinmaya Vishwavidyapeeth, where innovation shall be the driver to make them applicable to all contemporary challenges through a methodology commensurate with our times. Given this, the Academic Department or School is established in accordance with the demarcation of the various streams of education in which the university is already engaged in. The Schools already established in the university are as follows:

Given the depth and width of the subject matter, each School will be housed in a separate academic block. Consequently, the block will need to be self-sufficient and robust given the research orientation of the work and study process. Donations for a single School or Academic Block is Rs.10 crores (US $1.5 million).

The School/Block can be co-named with the Donor – for eg: Chinmaya XXX School of Veda & Vedangas.

Donors may also choose to donate for a single classroom (class size 30 students). In an Academic Block or within a School there will be many classes or divisions.

A donor contributes a sum of Rs.25 lakhs (US $40,000) for each classroom.

The Class/Division can be co-named with the Donor, for eg: Chinmaya XXX Class – Vedanga Block.

An important and crucial component of the University is the Library. It is proposed to set up a 2,000 sq. meters Central Library in the next 2-3 years, at the main campus in Ernakulam with about 20,000-30,000 books and digital resources for study and research. The nature of the University and its pursuit will determine the quality and complexity of the library facilities. Research will demand stacking and shelving areas for reference books, excellent lighting and seating, distinct reading areas, working areas equipped with copiers and computers as well. Given how reliant we have grown on electronic media, there will be need for specific staff who can guide and expedite copying, not to mention more computers, internet connections, wifi coverage and display media.

Keeping growing needs of resources and books, the donation for a digitised, fully equipped library is Rs.10 crores (US $1.5 million).

The Library can be co-named with the Donor; for eg: Chinmaya XXX Library.
